One of the best ways to boost productivity and reduce absenteeism at work is to assure you and/or your employer are promoting healthy habits at work. Inc. Magazine contributor Lauren Lastowka shares her 8 tips on promoting wellness in the workplace. Here is a summary of her advice:
Take preventative measures like having flu shots done at the office.
Promote exercise programs or even exercises that can be done from your desk.
Education is key! Make sure to share as much knowledge an information on healthy eating, exercise and more.
Hire an expert. Bring in guest doctors or health experts to speak to the team or staff in a group or one-on-one.
Offer incentives. You can make workplace wellness a little fun by starting a healthy workplace challenge and offering a financial reward or an extra vacation day for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Provide healthy snacks. Employees often run to the nearest fast food restaurant or fill up on salty/sugary snacks when the hunger pangs come around. If there are some healthy alternatives like fruits or nuts in the office, it could encourage them to opt for healthier snack options.
Don’t forget about stress. Healthy eating and exercise is one thing, but we can’t forget about mental health. There should be some way of assuring employees are not overloaded and burning out due to stress.
Promote healthy programs. Maybe you’re not taking an active approach to a healthy lifestyle in the office but there are tons of external resources and programs available that you can direct employees to.
