She recognized the need for change in her life and lucky for us, this her journey led to the creation of www.eatlifebalance.com. A self described, foodie nutritionist, her blog features simple, attainable advice that will leave you feeling educated, inspired and empowered.
I am so thrilled to introduce you to Julie another health advocate on a mission to guide others on their journey to finding balance.
I understand that prior to creating Eat Life Balance you worked in a high stress corporate environment, what were some of the signs and symptoms that led you to realizing you needed a change?
Such a great question. Anxiety was a big indicator for me. But, for many, it shows up in pre-mature aging, hormonal imbalances, restless sleep, energy crashes, thinning of the hair, weight gain or the inability to lose weight and more.
What first step would advise women to take who are feeling burnt-out or stressed and looking to make a change.
To keep it simple, 4 things:
DIET – include more plant-based foods that are high in mineral rich vegetables, quality fats, fermented foods and complex carbohydrates in moderation.
SUPPLEMENT – now this is really dependant on the individual but I would offer readers to look at adaptogen plants such as Red Reishi Mushroom, minerals such as Magnesium, Vitamin C (I like Camu Camu) and B12, a probiotic, and I love taking homeopathic aids such as Ashwagandha.
EXERCISE – believe it or not, hitting the gym isn’t key here. If you are dealing with high stress, it is important to limit high impact exercise and revert to more calming practices such as yoga and just a simple walk.
LIFESTYLE – this is a biggie and the hardest to achieve. For me, it began with saying NO to certain opportunities. Having a night-time and early morning ritual that brings calmness into your life. For example, diffusing essential oils, reading, journaling, meditation and so on. Just get into a routine and you’ll be amazed!
What role does food play in helping you achieve balance?
It is everything! Food is energy. So, when you focus on incorporating a diet that is primarily plant-based, you are loading your body with phytonutrients that help to keep your immunity strong and that provides you with energy. When you do the opposite and eat processed and packaged foods that are either high in sugar or unhealthy fats, you are guaranteed to not feel you best. It has the entirely opposite effect.
Your website features a lot of great recipes and nutritional advice. What is one of your favorite meals to have for breakfast to start your day off right?
In my house, my Coconut Chia Pudding is a winner. It is so simple to make and you can layer it with fruit, nuts, granola and so on. Chia is a great source of omegas, it’s packed with fibre and it keeps you full!
As so many moms are getting back into the school routine with their kids, what would you recommend as a go-to snack for a busy mom and her kids on the go?
Focus on healthy fats and complex carbohydrates for both energy and development. Here are some recommendations:

Health & Essential Oils
You are currently a doTERRA Wellness Advocate and Educator what made you decide to partner with this company?
Being an essential oil junkie for years, when I tried DoTERRA, it was an instant reaction to the quality of the oils. They are certified, therapeutic grade making them the purest essential oils on the market. They also incorporate the essential oils into eco-beauty care, supplements and even household eco-cleaners. Essential oils have been around for hundreds of years and have been used in all aspects of life. Now that people want to choose more natural ways to deal with their health, it’s not surprising that they are reaching for essential oils to help.
Your readers are welcome to reach out to me for more details.
What are 3 ways that we can incorporate essential oils into our healthy living plans?
Stress – the #1 way that I have helped ease stress and anxiety in my life is through diffusing essential oils in my home or to simply take a drop of peppermint oil, for example, to help alleviate a tension.
Beauty – when I was studying nutrition, I quickly learned how the chemicals in our over the counter beauty products can impact our health. So, now I choose to make my own products or an organic product with a drop of geranium and frankincense. The quality of my skin has improved dramatically with just two drops a day!
Cleaning – a few drops of essential oils cost pennies and they actually have the ability to disinfect surfaces as effectively as your typical household cleaner. Yet, at the same time, they are chemical free. Chemicals are hormone disruptors, which can impact in your long term health.
Do you have a favorite product that you recommend to women?
This is such a difficult question since I have the privilege to promote products all the time. But, for women’s health in particular, I would recommend a high-quality probiotic on a daily basis. Since our immunity starts and ends with the health of our digestive system, having healthy gut flora is key. Then I would suggest the use of pure grade essential oils since they can provide support in any number of ways.
How do you see Eat Life Balance growing over the next 5 years?
In a nut shell, I want ELB to be the resource that women go to for health and lifestyle guidance to help find balance in their lives. However, that rolls out, I’ll be happy with!
